Confidence

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Over the last few posts on mental preparation for combat sports, we can clearly see the importance it has on performance, yet how much little time it gets in comparison to technical, physical and tactical skills. Today we are gonna cover some practical ways to go about building confidence.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Confidence essentially comes down to, can back yourself to pull through against the odds?? There are many ways we can build this mental muscle. I consciously refer to it as a muscle as ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
luckily it is a trainable skill which we can all improve. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let’s begin with the foundation of confidence which are 2 C’s courage and consistency. This is the base for building confidence. We must first be courageous to take on challenges and place ourselves in uncomfortable situations to grow and improve. This must be done on consistent basic, continually turning up to training which the intention of mastery, which is to keep developing to reach your ultimate potential a never ending process. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Of course, the foundation to anything needs to be strong so being courageous and consistent in practice means, no cutting corners, no half hearted reps and continue to search for the challenges. There is no fooling your mind if your slacking here. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Belief underpins your confidence and you must give yourself evidence to believe in which comes from training and past performances. You need to have confidence in your approach and tools to get the job done especially when the chips are down. Make it your goal to find evidence of your improvement and abilities. It might be tracking measurables in your training or competition. Finding evidence of your style working at top level in another competitor who may have a similar body type and skillset to you. It may be a video of your highlights etc. Whatever you find gives you evidence and proof that you have what it takes. This will give you confidence to perform at a high level. If you can develop tools to deal with the other mental challenges (which we have addressed in posts over the last week) you give yourself the best chance to perform at your true potential. When you put yourself in a position to perform at your best and continue to improve, the wins and results will come. This is the ultimate evidence, there is no confidence like winning!! 🥇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So take care of the foundation and find solid evidence to support you and you will build that confidence muscle 💪 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bonus Hacks: Two quick ways to help confidence on fight day. Posture and body language. Do you carry yourself in a confident manner? Research shows doing so helps. Secondly self talk, you will have voices in your hand so why not plan to have them positive ones. List out prior what you KNOW (based on evidence above) your good at and these will be the thoughts you go through in your preparation routine if that self doubt tries to sneak in! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
